Alocasia Stingray

-

Unlike many varieties, which require some maturation to manifest their trademark colors or shape, the Stingray Alocasia makes its character known early on. Even the leaves on a young plant truly appear like a stingray! Their distinctive tails, especially paired with heart-shaped leaves resembling pectoral fins, relate this Alocasia to the breathtaking sea creatures. Mature Stingray Alocasias are incredibly beautiful and defined and can reach 3-4 feet in height indoors, making them a perfect anchor piece. (Outdoors, these can reach an impressive 15 feet in height!) Your Alocasia may go dormant in the fall and winter seasons—do not be alarmed if its leaves look faint as the seasons change. Just keep it in a warm, humid space, reduce watering, and do not fertilize. Spring time will bring the plant’s revival and new growth, so long as its core has been kept healthy.

Care Tips for Alocasia Stingray

Toxic if consumed. Keep out of reach of pets and small children.

Soil: Light, well-draining soil.

Light: Bright, indirect light.

Water: Keep the soil moist, but do not soak it. Allow top inch of soil to dry before watering.

Humidity: Average humidity will suffice, but higher humidity will promote best growth. If you live in an area with low humidity, add a humidity tray or mist several times a week.

Temperature: These plants grow best in temperatures within 65-80°F. During the cooler months when the temperatures fall below 60°F, take care to keep your Alocasia away from drafty areas.

Fertilizer: Use a dilution of 10-10-10 applied twice a month during the growing season.
