Cordylines are a genus of about 15 species of woody flowering plants. This colorful annual is easy to care for and grows vigorously as an outdoor plant or addition to your indoor container garden. Dark brown leaves are decorated with cream stripes and edges. As they mature, the leaves become even more spectacular when the brilliant tones of chocolate, red and purple show their full glory. Place in a well-lit area under a grow light, or in a window with part- or direct sun.

Care Tips for Cordyline Chocolate Queen

Toxic if consumed. Keep out of reach of pets and small children.

Soil: Cultured Sustainable Aroid Soil for Tropical Plants

Light: Bright, indirect or direct light. Cordyline plants can handle a small bit of shade, but they prefer to live in a space with lots of light. However, too much direct light can cause leaves to fade.

Water: The soil should be allowed to dry slightly between watering. On a scale of 1-5 moisture levels should remain as close to a 3 as possible.

Humidity: Cordyline plants do well in standard home humidity levels (about 30% or higher).

Temperature: Plants grow best in temperatures from 70°- 85° Fahrenheit range. During the cooler months when the temperatures fall below 65°F the plants will grow more slowly, and fertilization rates should be reduced.

Fertilizer: These plants can be fed in the spring with slow-release pellets. You can feed the plant weekly during the growing season with a liquid 20-20-20 fertilizer at half-strength. Do not fertilize during the winter.
